GRC25 Testimony by Ryo Kawashima

Hallelujah! Praise the name of the Lord.

First of all, I want to express my heartfelt thanks for being able to participate in GRC25. This was my very first GRC experience. At this conference, held under the theme of “Connect,” I received a great blessing from God, which I would like to share as my testimony.

The greatest blessing I received at GRC was this:
I was able to receive the peace that comes from abiding in Jesus.

The theme of “Connect” is one I’ve heard countless times in my more than ten years of Christian life. I thought I understood well how important it is to stay connected to Jesus.
But what I received this time was far beyond just understanding—it was God’s deep, abiding peace.

It has been nine months since I returned to Japan from the U.S. Living in Japan has brought many challenges for me—especially regarding my family and my church. These two areas have been major burdens in my life, making me feel as if I am walking through a spiritual wilderness. In the midst of that, choosing God daily and staying connected to Jesus has been incredibly hard.
Even though I know in my mind that Jesus should be my priority, the harsh reality around me often pushes Him to second place. And then I begin to blame myself for my weakness.
I often found myself caught in this spiral.

But through those daily struggles, I came to realize something important:
No matter what, staying in Jesus is essential.

Doing that temporarily is not so hard—but doing it always is extremely difficult.

When I first heard this year’s GRC theme, “Connect,” part of me agreed: “Yes, it’s true.”
But at the same time, I sighed inwardly: “Still… that’s easier said than done.”
I knew in my head that staying connected to Jesus is important, but in reality, it’s not always easy to choose that daily.

Then God gave me an unexpected opportunity:
I was asked to compose the theme song for GRC25.

As I began working on the song, I took time to slowly read and meditate on the theme Bible verse, and to pray.
What does it really mean to be connected to God?
What does it mean to abide in the vine?
Am I truly connected to that vine right now?

As I reflected and prayed, God showed me one clear truth:

“I love you.”

That was it—so simple, yet exactly what I needed.

To be loved by Jesus is an unchanging truth, no matter what.
Circumstances around me may shift. My faith may sometimes waver.
But one thing never changes: Jesus loves me.
He demonstrated that love by giving His life 2,000 years ago.
That love will never, ever change—and I received that truth again, afresh.

And when I received that, I simply thought:
I want to respond to that love.
I want to live loved by the Lord, and loving the Lord.
I want to treasure that intimate love relationship.
Day and night—even in this wilderness season of my life—I want to love the Lord.

As I prayed and worshiped with that heart, I felt a deep and overwhelming sense of peace enveloping me.
It made me realize again:

“Staying connected to Jesus is such a beautiful and peaceful thing.”

Up until now, I’ve often approached it with a sense of duty—“I have to stay connected, no matter how hard it is.”
But it’s not about forcing myself.
When I enter into a love relationship with God, that’s where I find healing and peace.
Apart from Jesus, I truly can do nothing.
I was able to receive that truth simply and fully.

And God gave me a song of praise:

🎵 “Connected to You”
Living, abiding in Christ Jesus
Apart from You, I can do nothing
You are the vine; I am the branch
Whoever abides in You will bear much fruit
Loved by the Lord, I live to love You
By Your side, day and night
Even in the wilderness
I will stay connected to You

On the day of the conference, I had the joy of singing this praise song, given by God, together with everyone gathered at the venue.
It was truly a time full of grace.

As I served in worship, and as I fellowshipped with many members of God’s family, I received even more encouragement and peace from the Lord.

I know I will continue walking through many different circumstances in my daily faith life.
But in the midst of it all, I want to walk closely with the Lord—loved by Him and loving Him—cherishing this intimate relationship of love with Him.

I am so grateful I was able to attend GRC25.
Thank you so much for your prayers and support.

The Lord is good! I give thanks to Him!

John 15:16

“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.”

What’s saving my life 2025 Summer

Hello everyone!

This is Yuko Ozeki, serving as JCFN North America Staff.

About a year and a half ago, I wrote a post titled What’s Saving My Life, and I thought I’d give it another go this time. Paying attention to what brings joy to our hearts in everyday life not only gives us breathing room but also gently turns our hearts toward God in gratitude.

So, here we go!

1. Solar Panels

Believe it or not, our solar panels at home were out of commission for nearly two years. Right in the middle of trying to get them repaired, the company we were leasing them from went bankrupt! That meant all repairs were put on hold. For the past two summers, we went without air conditioning, enduring the heat with lots of groans and sweat.

But finally, earlier this year, we were able to get in touch with the customer service team of the company that had bought out the old one. And in June—at last!—repairs were completed. Just in time for summer!

So now I’m ready—bring on the summer! That said, it actually hasn’t been too hot in California so far, and we haven’t needed to turn on the A/C much yet. Better safe than sorry.

2. A Real Work Desk

This happened a little while ago, but in an effort to combat lack of exercise, our staff member Mr. Shimizu brought a walking desk into the office. Thanks to that, we had an extra standard desk lying around, and I brought it home and set it up in my bedroom.

I already had a small desk that I used for working from home, but let me tell you—having a bigger desk makes such a difference! It’s so much more functional and comfortable. A spacious work area really does help with productivity.

I even ended up upgrading my monitor. Now I’ve got a solid desk for getting things done!

3. Shoulder Blade Yoga

Last year, I mentioned that I was doing yoga before bed. Lately though, I’ve started doing a morning YouTube routine to relieve neck and shoulder tension—and wow, it works wonders! Whenever I have stiffness or soreness, this is now my go-to. Nothing else compares.

4. Takako Narcisa

Let’s talk about people! Takako Narcissa, our North America Office Staff Candidate—what an incredible worker she is. Watching her move through tasks quickly and cheerfully is so refreshing. Honestly, if she hadn’t been there at the end of last year, I don’t know what would’ve happened to EC!

She’s currently fundraising. Please consider supporting her! Donation Link(Candidate Fund Takako Narcisa Office Staff)

Once she’s officially on staff, I hope to entrust her with more office tasks and spend more time connecting with people in person. So excited!

5. Morning and Evening Dog Walks

This hasn’t changed. It’s a constant reminder to carve out space in a busy schedule. Just stepping outside, walking or running on the grass with my dog—it’s enough to refresh me.

Dogs are so simple. They eat, sleep, move, and stay joyfully close to their owner with complete trust. I’m reminded that God delights in us simply being near Him, not for what we do or don’t do, but just because we are with Him.

6. WINGS

If you’re a parent of teens, you’ll agree—there’s no greater gift than a strong youth ministry!

Thanks to WINGS and EC Youth, our daughters have grown in faith and found wonderful friends. I’m beyond grateful.

Tomorrow, our older daughter will be heading to Japan on a mission trip. What a blessing and opportunity for spiritual growth! If you’re reading this, would you say a quick prayer for the WINGS Mission Trip? (July 23 – August 7)

7. Devotional Guide

This summer I came across an amazing devotional guide: “Reflections for Ragamuffins” by Brennan Manning. Every time I read it, I find myself going, “Ohhhh…” or “Wowww…”—it’s that good.

Highly recommended!

That’s it for now.

Thank you for reading!

With gratitude,

Central Conference Testimony 2: Anna and Noah Hoech

Anna and Noah Hoech

When Xiyue and Shuji first reached out to us about Central Conference back in April, Noah and I were both really excited to go! Over the years, God has deepened our desire to go to the unreached, and after visiting Japan for the first time in the summer of 2023, we have been slowly working towards partnering with local churches in Japan to do church planting long-term. But in the season of waiting to depart, God opened a door for Noah to do a PhD in Old Testament. This meant that we were going to stay in the States for at least 4-5 years. Even as Noah finished up his first year in his PhD, we feel the dryness of the waiting season and our yearning to be abroad. Here is where CC came in!

We were so touched to see so many Japanese Christians gathered in one place and praising the Lord. At first, we were overwhelmed by how much we didn’t understand, but I felt a deep longing to understand the language. Yet, we were really grateful for these feelings and getting to lean into that for a weekend because it kept us humble. It showed us how much room we have to grow. Our friend once reminded us that he wants to be a missionary because it is the only place where his proud heart will remain humble. We left CC with more motivation and excitement to practice our kanji, learn our grammar, and practice speaking! We are so grateful for this community that was so welcoming, speaking English with us, providing translation for the sessions and in small group, praying over us, and just being our friend for the weekend.

The worship brought me to tears several times. What a beautiful God we have who calls people from every tribe, language, nation, and culture to serve him! It is absolutely such a beautiful experience to sing alongside Japanese and non-Japanese brothers and sisters in another language but worshipping the same God. It gave me a glimpse of what heaven would be like and truly brought me to my knees in worship of a God who calls us into His presence. As I watched everyone in the room worship God, it reminded me why mission exists. It’s how John Piper puts it: “Mission exists because worship doesn’t.” The closing ceremony was also so encouraging. We were so touched by so many people who prayed over us about our calling to Japan, and we’re so grateful for the many examples of those who have gone before us.

One of the sweetest moments in this conference was seeing how loved our baby Azariah was. We still treasure the picture of baby Azariah being held by the Japanese children. It was very comforting to us, especially as we look to raising our children in Japan. Thank you for welcoming us at Central Conference. Our time there reignited our desire to go abroad and reminded us of staying content as well as connected in the preparation season. We hope that we get to come back again in the future.

Much gratitude,

Anna, Noah, and Azariah Hoech
